Patrol Day Success September 3, 2007

Last Saturday (24th August) members of the club young and old came together to provide lifeguard cover between Splash Point (Redoudt Fortress) to Eastbourne Pier. The day was a complete success with 15 members turning out throughout the day to carry out foot patrols, boat patrols, observation posts and even some board patrols. With one minor first aid incident dealt with I am sure our presence alone safeguarded many that swam in the sea on the day. Remember, a good lifeguard will identify a potential incident before it actually happens……ooh that must be us, what a team!

We finished the day off back at the clubhouse with a fund-raising evening amongst club members and their families by having a BBQ and raffle. The club raised over £50 which is fantastic and I actually won a raffle prize!
Thanks to everybody that volunteered their time throughout the day, evening (setting up/down), donations (prizes/monetary/equipment etc) and parents who came to support us (and not to forget our mackerel friends who joined us for a ‘bite’ to eat).

We plan to be patrolling this Saturday…. so it will be good to see any available lifeguards (or lifeguards in the making) at the clubhouse for a 10 am start. All the craft will be available for use on the day & the boat will be out too. The Weather looks like it’s going to be good…. & even if it turns bad I am sure we can fit some training in! If you just want to pop down during the day to see what’s going on… just look out for the people in Red & Yellow! – we will be concentrating our activities on the beaches adjacent to the Redoubt Fortress.
The invite is also open to any members and their Families – subject to numbers we hope to offer lifeguarding and educational activities (but we can’t provide supervision – hence the invitation to all the family).
Later in the day (from 5:30pm) we plan to have a BBQ – If you can please let Jeanne or anther committee member know if you are coming – just so we know rough numbers for catering. The BBQ will cost £2.50 and includes a raffle ticket.
Hope to see you all on the day.
Sean.
