Hi all – again just a quick round up… Firstly the thank you… Last Sunday a load of members (ok I don’t have the list to hand yet… but will do shortly) helped out at the annual Christmas car raffle at the Arndale Shopping center. A big thank you to all that turned up and particularly to Amanda for organizing everything. We raised £790!!! I also have a few pics that I will upload…On Sat 19th Jan at 11am Jaeger, Holly, April and Louisa will attend the official cheque presentation in the Arndale Centre.
Just returned from the seniors Christmas gathering… lots of pizza – maybe too much… only thing to report really is that Garry won the pink poodle… enough said.
Tomorrow is the Juniors Club championships – good luck to all those competing – hope the judges are not too hard on you…
Finally Lionel dropped me a line with a few bits ad pieces…
Lionel will be doing a sponsored swim on the 17th January 2008 – if you can help Lionel’s cause in anyway just contact him (or leave a comment below) . The swim will help Lionel raise money for a project where he will be helping set up a computer network in for a school in Freetown, Sierra Leone. While the team are there they will also be taking part in a celebration of the abolition of slavery. More information can be found on the BBC site.
Patrol Day Success September 3, 2007

Last Saturday (24th August) members of the club young and old came together to provide lifeguard cover between Splash Point (Redoudt Fortress) to Eastbourne Pier. The day was a complete success with 15 members turning out throughout the day to carry out foot patrols, boat patrols, observation posts and even some board patrols. With one minor first aid incident dealt with I am sure our presence alone safeguarded many that swam in the sea on the day. Remember, a good lifeguard will identify a potential incident before it actually happens……ooh that must be us, what a team!

We finished the day off back at the clubhouse with a fund-raising evening amongst club members and their families by having a BBQ and raffle. The club raised over £50 which is fantastic and I actually won a raffle prize!
Thanks to everybody that volunteered their time throughout the day, evening (setting up/down), donations (prizes/monetary/equipment etc) and parents who came to support us (and not to forget our mackerel friends who joined us for a ‘bite’ to eat).

On saturday 14th Eastbourne Voluntary Lifeguards acted as saftey cover for Eastbourne Rowing Regatta. All i can say was what a day. The rowers had the most awfull conditions to row in which meant that there was alot of things for us to keep us busy. During the day we had 3 craft rescues (2 x four man & Coxain and 1 x 2 man) due to taking on water and sinking because of the sea conditions, but altogether all the different crews we had on each part of the day handled all situation that arised. Would like to thank the following people which are Lee B, Lionel H, Jacqui, Chris S, Jono G, Nick W thanks for all the help guys through out day weather it be on the boat or on the skies and also must thank Eastbourne Rowing Club for all the food and drinks we were provided with (an abosulte lifesaver).
The Final thing is now our new engine was superb and now is run in completely and ran like a dream
Call for help at the Maritime Swim! July 8, 2007

Hi everyone! Just a quick request for Beach Lifeguard Qualified members and Bronze medallion holders for the Maritime Swim that will be held on Sunday the 29th of July. We will need as many board competent lifeguards as we can get.
We plan to make a day of it – with a few patrols – in coordination with the beach lifeguards from 10am – 4pm.
We would like to invite any members and their families down to the Wish Tower beach from 10:30am – the swim is worth watching, plus we will try to (depending on how many people we have) organise some Lifeguarding / educational activities (but can’t provide supervision – hence our invite for the families). The swim itself is at 11:30am.
During the 2km swim we will provide cover from the beach, on the boards and using the boat. The swim activities will be from 11am through to 1pm.
If you are interested, the Maritime swim briefing will be at 18:00 on the 23rd of July at the clubhouse. You can leave a comment below – Lee will get an email (we won’t publish it – if you don’t want to).

On Saturday 24 March, Eastbourne Voluntary Lifeguards (EVL) provided lifeguard support and a team of swimmers at the Eastbourne Lions Club Swimathon 2007 fundraising event at the Sovereign Center.
During three 25 minute sessions, teams from various organisation in and around Eastbourne swam away while counters checked how many laps they managed to do. Funds raised will be shared between the Lions Club and the clubs taking part.
Thank you to everyone who helped out on the night including Frank, Sue, Cynthia, Lionel, Jono, Chris, Sean and Jaeger and well done to all the swimmers!
We would also like thank everyone who donated money to help raise funds for the club.
